We are happy to announce that we will hold a virtual prize award ceremony to celebrate the 2020- and 2021 Skytte Prize laureates, Peter Katzenstein and David Laitin, on October 1, 2021 at 17:30 CET. Both laureates will deliver their prize winner lectures which will be commented upon by the 2019 Skytte Prize laureate, Margaret Levi. Follow this link to access the event: https://s3m.io/RGrjk
The ceremony will take the form of a livestream and will be freely accessible to all who might be interested (no sign-up or log-in will be required). This way, we make the Skytte Prize award ceremony accessible to a broader audience than ever before.
Peter J. Katzenstein will be awarded the 2020 Johan Skytte Prize for “furthering the understanding of how history, culture, and norms shape economies, as well as national and global security policy.” His Skytte Prize lecture is entitled “Thinking about Spaghetti — Served by German and Italian Waiters”.
David D. Laitin will be awarded the 2021 Johan Skytte Prize for his “original and objective explanation of how politics shapes cultural strategies in heterogeneous societies.” He will deliver a Skytte Prize lecture entitled “Cultural Diversity: Achieving its Promise”.
In addition to the two prize winner lectures, the ceremony will also feature the traditional posting of the laureates’ portaits on the Johan Skytte wall of fame at the Department of Government, Uppsala University, and a discussion between Li Bennich-Björkman, chair of the Skytte Prize committee, and the two laureates. The transmission will take approximately two hours.
